Bailey Bug turned six this weekend! She had been wanting a horse party, and being the very nice Mommy that I am she got one. I won't go into all the details of the planning of the horse party, but let's just say I might deserve the Mother of the Year award for this one. There was a fun craft project, games with cool horse prizes, a pretend horse made from a straw bale and saddle (thanks Travis and Jen,) a horse cake (courtesy of Grandma Muscha,) horse decorations (courtesy of Aunt Kimber,) and one other thing - there was a real live horse! I actually can't take the credit for the horse because my friend Denise offered to bring her pony to the party. We managed to keep it a secret from all the girls including Bailey. Here is a play-by-play of the party:
Things started a bit before Bailey's friends got here when my niece Sarah took Bailey outside to get some pre-party pictures. I am pretty sure all the pictures in this post will be ones that Sarah took because she is AMAZING! Thank you Sarah! Did I mention that Shane, Kimber, and Sarah came for the weekend? Well they did, and we loved having them here.
Next it was time for the party! We started off with a craft in the basement. Each girl got to decorate a couple of horseshoes. I wasn't sure what they would think of the project, but they really took to it. A local man donated the horseshoes, and Miles got them all cleaned up for the girls.
After the craft project we headed outside for a horse scavenger hunt. Uncle Shane hid lots of little horses around the yard, and the girls got to search for them. It turned out to be quite challenging because the horses were very small and blended in a bit too well. I have a feeling there are still a few around the yard.
Next was the relay race. The girls had to add a piece of the mane and tail to their team's horse. We called it a tie at the end, and everyone got a prize.
We had another game planned, but decided it was time for cake and presents instead.
The surprise guest was the finale of the party. We had managed to keep it a secret from Bailey but it wasn't easy. This was the look on Bailey's face when the pony arrived:
Another huge thank you to Denise for bringing her pony for the girls. Everyone was very excited for a ride. A couple of girls said they had never been on a real horse before so this was a special day for them.
My favorite part of the party might have been the Polaroid camera. It took some doing, but I managed to round up (no horse pun intended) an old camera and some film. I wanted each girl to have a Polaroid picture on the horse to take home. They were a hit!
Overall I think the party was a big success. We had another "party" for Bailey in the evening with everyone, and it was a pretty great day to turn 6! I have more blogging to do about the weekend with Shane, Kimber, and Sarah, but I will get to that soon. Happy Birthday Bailey! You are the most wonderful 6-year-old in the entire world.
